Massage Therapy

At Team Health Care Clinic, our primary emphasis in treating our patients is to use therapies that work with the body to strengthen and heal. Treating the “whole person” by removing imbalances that are causing disease and illness supports the innate ability your body has to heal itself. This philosophy is integral to helping our patients actually become HEALTHIER by using a drug-free, non-invasive approach to health care.

Stress as a Cause of Illness

One of the primary and most well known benefits of massage therapy is to reduce stress. This is especially significant, according to USA Today, since “Up to 90% of the doctor visits in the USA may be triggered by a stress-related illness, says the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.” USA TODAY, March 21, 2005

A growing body of scientific evidence shows that Therapeutic Massage can have profound effects on your health physically and emotionally. Massage Therapy can be a powerful adjunct to your wellness plan for a number of reasons:

Counting the Benefits of Massage Therapy

Reduces Stress:

Massage activates the parasympathetic nervous system and triggers a relaxation response.

Reduces Pain:

Removes toxins and metabolic waste from fatigued and injured muscles and reduces spasm and cramping by increasing blood flow to affected areas. Massage releases endorphins- your body’s natural pain killer- and is used to relieve pain from chronic illness, injury and recovery from surgery.

 Promotes Healing:

Massage promotes blood flow and increases circulation to muscles, tissues and organs allowing oxygen and vital nutrients to enter and stimulate the healing process.

Increases Joint Flexibility:

Stretching and relaxing muscles allows for greater range of motion in joints.

Increases Immune Response:

Massage strengthens the body’s defense system by increasing the flow of lymph to help remove toxins and by helping to facilitate the production of the body’s natural killer cells.
