What is Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)?

PRP is a mixture of blood cells and plasma that we obtain from the patient’s own blood. The combination of blood cells and plasma creates an excellent source for tissue repair and healing.

The plasma is refined down until it has a high concentration of healing ingredients such as platelets, white blood cells, growth factors, ions, cytokines, fibrinogen clotting factors and dissolved proteins.

PRP is a perfect fit for the Team Health Care Clinic wellness model and philosophy. It is 100% natural using each patient’s own healing properties. Because PRP is from the patient’s very own blood, there is a very minimal risk of adverse reactions/side effects.

How does a treatment using PRP work?

PRP is a simple and safe nonsurgical procedure. It involves three very simple steps:

1. A small sample of your blood is drawn and collected into a special device.
2. The special device is then centrifuged at a high speed to isolate the purest PRP.
3. Then the PRP is carefully injected into the affected site using refined techniques to help ensure advanced healing and regeneration.

What is the recovery time after a PRP injection?

Most people are able to return to work the day after the procedure. High impact activities may need to be avoided for several weeks. Recovery times can vary, but patients generally begin to see improvement in pain and mobility after 4 – 6 weeks. Improvements continue for up to 6 months. Most patients will receive an initial injection and then receive a second injection during a follow up appointment three weeks later.

Is PRP covered by insurance?

PRP is not covered by insurance.

What is the cost of a PRP treatment?

For a limited time only, the cost of each PRP injection at Team Health Care is $350, which is considerably less than national rates. We do this to make this wonderful treatment accessible to as many people as possible!
